A Silver Lining for Women’s Volleyball at ACAC Championships
After finishing first in the North Division the Rustlers women's volleyball team made the trip to Red Deer to compete in the ACAC Final Four tournament. Their first opponent was the Briercrest Clippers who came out firing on all cylinders in the first set downing the Rustlers by a score of 25 – 13. After the break, the Rustlers rebounded and started to play some strong volleyball. The Rustlers went on to win the next 3 sets by identical scores of 25-23 to win the match 3 sets to 1.
North Player of the Year, Jenay Varga, led the Rustlers with 19 points and Kaylie Lueck and Sarah Hogue had 4 blocks each to pace the Rustlers to the victory and a trip to the gold medal game.
Saturday the Rustlers were pitted against the home team and South Division Champion Red Deer Polytechnic Queens. Red Deer took the first set 25–23 before the Rustlers battled back to take the second set by an identical score of 25–23 to even the match. The Queens built a lead in set 3 and went on to win it by a score of 25-14. Set four was back and forth but the Queens chipped away and built a small lead which they were able to maintain until the end of the set that earned the home team the victory 3 sets to 1 and the gold medal.
Jenay Varga once again had a strong game for the Rustlers with 18 kills and Mackenzie Yole and Avery Bates added 9 and 8 kills each.
