Volleyball Teams take 3 out of 4
To start the second semester the Rustlers Volleyball teams competed in a home and home series against the NAIT Ooks. In Edmonton, on Friday night, the men's started the evening off by winning the first set 25–23. The Rustlers were unable to retain the momentum and went on to lose the next 3 to the Ooks and the match 3 sets to 1.
Tylie Montgrand and Mason Short led the Rustlers with 9 kills each.
The Rustler women started the second semester off strong taking the first set from the Ooks 25–8 and followed it up with two more set wins 25-14 and 25–14 taking the match 3 sets to 0.
Jenay Varga led the Rustlers with 15 kills and Sarah Hogue led all Rustler women totaling up 3 blocks.
Saturday the Rustlers returned home to complete the second day of the doubleheader. The men's match was a long-drawn-out battle that started with the Rustlers taking the first set 26–24. The Ooks took the match lead by winning the next two sets 25–19 and 27-25. The Rustlers dug deep to pull out a victory in the fourth set 25 – 22 which set up the battle in set 5. The Rustlers were behind for most of the set but showed a lot of character to pull out the 15–13 victory and handed the Ooks their first loss of the season.
Gabriel Bjorkas, Mason Short, and Player of the game, Tylie Montgrand contributed 12 kills each for the win and setter Lane Blight led all Rustler blockers with 4.
Due to the length of the men's game, the women were a little late starting their match. The delay did not deter the Rustler women as they continued their winning ways once again defeating the Ooks in 3 straight sets 25–21, 25–21, and 25–15. Jenay Varga once again led all Rustlers with 16 kills while setter Jana Laing added 36 assists and 3 service aces for the winning team.
Next up for the Rustlers will be the Augustana Vikings in a home and home series on January 28 and 29th with the first game of the home and home being played at Lakeland Friday night.
