Volleyball Teams Start the Season with Victories
The Rustler Volleyball teams returned to regular-season competition after almost 20 months of no league play.
The Volleyball teams started the 2021-2022 season on the road in Edmonton against the Concordia Thunder. The men's team started off losing the first set 25-21 before rattling off 3 straight-set victories 25-22, 25-23, and 25-20 to win the match 3-1. Tylie Montgrand, Brady Cole, and Ben Hoffman each contributed 8 kills, and Tyler Donnally put up the wall 6 times to earn 6 blocks on the stat sheet for the Rustlers.
The women follow up the men's game with some strong play of their own. The Rustlers took the first set 25-13 and did not look back following up with 25-14 and 25-10 victories to win the match 3 sets to 0. MacKenzie Yole led the Rustlers with 7 kills and Sarah Hogue added 3 blocks to carry the Rustlers to victory.
Saturday the Rustlers hosted the Thunder in the second half of the home and home weekend. The men won the first set in a hard-fought battle, 27-25, and the second set 25-18 before losing the third set 23-25. The Rustlers regrouped in set four defeating the Thunder 25-22 and the match 3 games to 1. Cameron Jones had 13 kills 5 serve aces and chipped in 4 blocks to lead the Rustlers.
The women's team continued where they finished off Friday night defeating the Thunder in three straight sets to win the match by scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 25-18. Jenay Varga led the Rustlers with 18 kills and freshman Avery Bates chipped in 10 more to move the Rustlers record to 2 and 0.
The Rustlers will be on the road this next weekend as they head up to Fort McMurray to take on the Huskies.
