WVB Weekend Recap | November 2 & 3, 2018

The Lakeland Rustlers Women's Volleyball team returned to the court this past weekend following their bye weekend and picked up where they left off.

The Rustlers took on the Concordia Thunder in Edmonton Friday night, where they won in three straight sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-21).  The Rustlers controlled the match for much of the night, using their talent and experience to take the lead.  The Thunder pushed the Rustlers in all three sets, keeping them close and even leading in the third set, but the Rustlers were determined and won the match in three.

The Rustlers were led by fifth year outside hitter Ahnika Kuse with 11 kills and nine digs, earning her Player of the Game.  Fifth year outside hitter Shelby Becker added ten kills and four digs for the Rustlers, while second year libero Hailee McKenna had 17 digs.  Fifth year setter Rae Sigurdson distributed the ball for the Rustlers, finishing the match with 29 assists.

The Rustlers returned home Saturday night and proved to be even more dominant than the night before.  The Rustlers once again defeated the Thunder in three straight sets (25-13, 25-11, 25-14) but did so in a more convincing fashion.

Becker led the Rustlers with 12 kills and five digs, while Kuse added six kills and eight digs, and Sigurdson added 31 assists.  Player of the Game for the Rustlers was fourth year right side Avery Maginel with three kills, two blocks, and one dig.

The Rustlers (6-0) return to the court next weekend for two home games, as they take on the Keyano Huskies (1-5).  Games are Friday night at 6 PM with the rematch scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
