The Lakeland Rustlers Women's Soccer team dropped their season and home opener Sunday afternoon 2-1 to the Ambrose Lions.

Midway through the first half, Lakeland had a chance open the scoring, but the shot by Rustlers fifth year winger Ashley Miller was off the crossbar. Instead, Ambrose would open the scoring in the 34th minute, with a goal by Bethany Herman. Neither team scored in the final ten minutes of the half, giving Ambrose the 1-0 heading into the second.
Both teams had scoring chances early on in the second half, but neither could capitalize. It wasn't until the 76th minute when the Rustlers were able to tie the score at 1 with a goal by Emma Lang. The Rustlers had several opportunities to extend the lead, but goalkeeper Janelle Perry made some big saves for Ambrose. Ambrose would eventually take a 2-1 lead in the 87th minute on a goal by Kara Friesen. The Rustlers had a chance to tie the game in extra time, but the final second shot by third year midfielder Gabrielle Lapointe narrowly missed the net, giving Ambrose the 2-1 win.
