Hockey Fights Cancer a Huge Success
For the second year in a row, the Lakeland College Kings Energy Group Rustlers women's hockey program teamed up with the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation to put on a hockey game to raise funds for Cancer treatment. The event included a silent auction and the ability to donate to the health foundation prior to the game. Gate admission was by donation at the event to encourage people to contribute what they could.
Both teams sported jerseys made especially for the evening that highlighted the cause. The Rustlers were divided into two teams along with a number of alumni from last year's team, local female hockey players as well as a couple of mothers of the student-athletes. Celebrity refs were assistant Coach Warren Noble and his son Eric who called a great game on the ice to allow for the maximum amount of fun.
Even though the score was kept, in the end, it was irrelevant, as the big winner on the night was the Cancer ward at the Lloydminster Hospital will receive just over $8000.00 generated from the event.
The entire event was best summed up by one of the people who dropped the ceremonial puck to start the game "A big thanks goes out to the Lakeland Rustlers King's Energy Group Hockey Club for putting on a great event last night. They hosted their second annual Hockey Fights Cancer night led by my brother, Warren. All proceeds to the evening go to the Lloydminster Chemotherapy Department. As a previous user of the chemo department, I know the importance of having a positive, caring environment to have your treatments. The gals in the chemo department are second to none. It makes me very happy to know that every dollar donated will go to such a great local cause. Thank you to Warren, Erin, Morgan and Merv Mann, and the whole Rustler organization for providing the opportunity to raise awareness."
