Women’s Hockey Leading the North Division
The Lakeland College Kings Energy Group Hockey team started the second semester off the way they finished, by winning games.
January 15th weekend they started the second half of the season at home against the Calgary Jags and the Edmonton Wolves. Saturday the Rustlers played a solid defensive game defeating the Jags by a score of 4 – 0. Olivia Mann, Lana Duriez, Mackenzie Stafford, and Jayde Cadieux scored the Rustlers goals and Chantel Weller made 14 saves for the home team.
Sunday the Rustlers hosted the second-place team in the north division, the Edmonton Wolves. The Rustlers were looking to put some space between themselves and the Wolves with a win.
Sunday's game was a fast skating affair with the Rustlers leading 2–1 after the first and 4–2 after the second on their way to a 6–3 victory. Olivia Mann lead the Rustlers with 5 points and was named the first star for her efforts. Janae Neufeld made 18 saves for the win.
Saturday, January 22nd the Rustlers hosted the Sherwood Park Steele and continued their winning ways with a 3–0 victory. Kaylee Hill, Lana Duriez, and Jazby Hrynyk scored for the Rustlers and Chantel Weller made 23 saves for the shutout. The victory moved the Rustlers record to 16 and 4, 7 points ahead of the 2nd place Edmonton Wolves.
The next home game for the Rustlers will be this upcoming weekend on Friday, January 28th when they will be competing against NE Alberta women's all-star hockey team in a charity fundraiser to fight cancer. That game will be followed up with a league game Saturday, January 29th against the Fort Saskatchewan Fury at 7:30 pm.
