Alana Olson named CCAA All-Canadian
Lakeland Rustlers forward Alana Olson has been named a Canadian Colleges Athletic Conference All-Canadian!
This continues a month of accolades for the third-year, after she was named to the ACAC North Division All-Conference 1st Team.
Olson, a graduate of Maidstone High School, continued to showcase her steady improvement since joining the women's program in 2019, where she was part of the 2019/2020 ACAC Championship squad. After becoming a critical part of the 2022 squad, Olson took on a leadership and primary scoring role this past fall and she came out of the gate with a pair of double-double's opening weekend against the NIAT Ooks. In nearly holding that total for the rest of the season, she averaged 14.7 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game, leading her team in both categories and finishing 11th and 9th in the ACAC respectively.
Olson's improved game included becoming a reliable shooter from deep, finishing 7th in 3-point percentage and first on the Rustlers. She was also one of the best defensive players in the country, capable of guarding all five positions and providing rim protection and rebounding against taller opponents.
Individual highlights included a four-game stretch in November, where she averaged more than 15 points and 11 rebounds, including a 25 and 11 outing against Red Deer Polytechnic. In January, she posted a season best 30 points in the team's win at home against the NWP Wolves and a week later she had 28 points and seven rebounds in a road win vs. the Eagles.
Olson also battled significant injuries this season, including coming back at the end of the year after missing several weeks form a concussion. She is working towards a Bachelor of Science degree at Lakeland.
