Women’s Basketball Starts Second Semester with 3 wins
The Christmas break seemed longer than normal with the last regular-season game occurring on November 26th.
The women started the second semester at home competing in a rescheduled game against the King's University Eagles. The Rustlers played a strong first half, heading back into the locker room with a 48–21 lead. The women returned to the court in the third quarter using the momentum they gained in the first half on pace to their sixt hwin of the season, 91–51.
The Player of the Game for the Rustlers was Bilge Topaloglu who dropped in 17 points for the Rustlers. Hailey Somers also added another 18 for the home team.
This past weekend the Rustlers played a home and home with the NAIT Ooks. Friday at home the Rustlers got off to a quick start winning each of the first two quarters and went into halftime with a 46–17 lead. The Ooks returned from halftime and narrowed the gap but in the fourth quarter, the Rustlers built on their lead which resulted in an 81–52 victory for the women. Bilge Topaloglu and Alana Olson scored 21 and 20 points respectively for the Rustlers.
Player of the Game Hailey Somers chipped in 11 points and played a great game for the Rustlers.
Saturday the Rustlers headed to Edmonton to compete in the return engagement. The Ooks played a stronger game at home but the Rustlers carried the momentum from Friday night into Saturday's game. The Rustlers built a 39 – 30 lead going into the half and added another 30 points in the second half to continue their winning streak with a 69 – 58 victory. Bilge Topaloglu led the Rustlers again offensively and defensively amassing 15 points and 14 rebounds.
With the 2 victories over the weekend, it moved the Rustlers record to 8 and 0 on the season.
