Rustlers Volleyball Start the Second Semester with Strong Performances
The Rustler Volleyball teams started the second semester pushing to secure playoff positions and hopefully not having to compete in a qualification game at the end of the season.
In their first weekend back the Rustlers completed the southern road swing competing against the Ambrose Lions on Friday, January 13th, and taking on the Lethbridge Kodiaks on Saturday night January 14th.
The Women's team was able to get back to their winning ways by completing a 3 – 0 sweep of the south-leading Lions on Friday night and then following that up with a solid performance on Saturday night against the south second place team, at the time, Lethbridge Kodiaks with another 3 – 0 match victory on Saturday. The men's team had more significant battles but were able to secure a 3 – 1 win against the Lions on Friday night and then follow that up with a 3 – 1 victory against the south league-leading team at the time Lethbridge Kodiaks.
The following weekend the Rustler competed in a home-and-home series with division rivals Kings University College. The Rustlers head to Edmonton on Friday to compete, and the women secured another 3 – 0 win while the men's team battled to a 3-set victory. Saturday back at Lakeland the women once again defeated the Eagles 3 sets to 0 but the men were unable to retain the momentum from the previous matches and fell to the Eagles 3 sets to 1.
Mason Short has played well for the Rustlers the last few weekends while Jenay Varga currently leads in the kills and serve ace categories in the ACAC. The women's team is also ranked number 3 in Canada.
Next action for the Rustlers is February 3 and 4 when they play a home-and-home series with the Concordia Thunder. The Rustlers will be home on February 3rd and head up to Edmonton on the 4th.
