Volleyball Teams fall to Eagles
As the Rustlers Volleyball teams inch closer to the end of the regular season the playoff picture is becoming more clear. The women's volleyball team locked up first place in the North division after their win last weekend over the Grande Prairie Wolves. The team hosted the Kings University Eagles this past Thursday looking to add another victory to the win column. The women started the match off with a hard-fought 25 – 22 victory then followed that up with another battle which they ended up on the losing end of by a 27 – 25 score. The Eagles earned another narrow 25 – 23 win in game 3 and finished the night with a 25 -16 victory to win the match 3 sets to 1. Libero Gracyn Hay was named Player of the Game for her solid defensive play throughout the match.
The men's team has recently run into injury issues but it did not deter them from putting in a solid team effort against the King's Eagles. Like the women, the men started the night off with a 25 -22 victory before losing 2 hard-fought sets by scores of 25 – 23 and 25 – 23. In the fourth set, the Eagles built a lead and defeated the Rustlers 25 – 17. Cameron Jones lead all Rustlers scorers with 14 kills. Jarret Nelson and Gabriel Bjorkas contributed 8 kills each for the home team.
The Rustlers' last regular-season game has been postponed to February 26th when they will finish on the road against the Concordia Thunder. Due to their standing in the North Division, the women have earned a bye to the North semi-finals where they will host the semi final match. The men will host a quarter-final game to kick off the playoffs. All playoffs will start the first weekend in March.
