Sport:  Women’s Volleyball

What year(s) did you compete for Lakeland:  1989- 1991

How did playing for the Rustlers help you get to where you are today?

Playing a Collegiate Sport and receiving the Female Athlete of the year award in 1989-1990, while also achieving distinction level grades affirmed the effort = rewards equation which applies to all aspects of life.  Be it your career, spiritual pursuits, relational satisfaction, you truly reap what you sow, and higher levels of achievement require higher efforts of dedication, commitment, and hard work.  This involvement also made me realize how important sports, fitness and health are to me.

Where are you working right now and what are you doing?

Currently employed at the Craig Ranch Fitness Center and Spa as a Performance Enhancement Specialist/Personal Trainer.  I work with athletes of all levels, helping them improve mentally, physically, and biomechanically in various sports such as running, cycling, and swimming, golf, figure skating.  I also freelance in Coaching Endurance Athletes and teaching runners’ proper biomechanics.

Are you still involved with basketball now?  Coaching/ playing etc.

I reached my career peak in the sport of Triathlon where I was second in Canada in my age group at the Half Ironman Distance.  My current goals/competition are in running where I am pursuing qualifying for the Boston Marathon.  I coach numerous Triathletes and Runners.

What was your favorite moment at Lakeland as a student-athlete?

Providing leadership and sportsmanship both on and off the volleyball court.  I was honored to have received the President's Medal on my graduation year.

Are you still close with any former teammates?

I keep in touch with several colleagues and miss the Volleyball years and educational

If you could give a couple of words of advice to our current Rustlers what would it be?

This may sound like a cliche, however follow your dreams as you never know where they may take you.  Had I not pushed myself to compete at the level I did in Triathlon, I wouldn't be able to offer the experience and knowledge of injury prevention, nutrition, and training advice that I offer to my clients.

Any additional words of wisdom?

Don't take no for an answer; keep knocking on doors and eventually one will open.  Thank you to the coaching and Educational staff at Lakeland for the skills that I developed to set me up for success.
