Sport: Soccer/Futsal

What year (s) did you compete for Lakeland: 2010-2013

How did playing for the Rustlers help you get to where you are today (career)?

My biggest take away after my three years as a Rustler was the importance of positive communication and encouraging leadership. I also learned the significance of being accountable and the negative effects of tardiness.

Where are you working right now and what are you doing?

I am an elementary teacher at Pollard Meadows school in Edmonton. However, I am currently on an 18 month maternity leave and enjoying every minute with my twin boys River and August.

Are you still involved with your sport you competed at Lakeland now? Coaching/ playing etc.

I still play both indoor and outdoor soccer in Edmonton on a Div 1 and Premier team. I also play for team Ukraine during the Edmonton Heritage Cup.

What was your favorite moment at Lakeland as a student-athlete?

My favorite moment was winning the ACAC gold medal in futsal (2013). I've never wanted to win something so badly in my entire life! Everyone on our team was so focused and really wanted to win. We worked so hard to make sure it happened.

Are you still close with any former teammates?

I feel very fortunate that I’m still close with many former teammates. This past summer I attended Ashly and Lewis’s wedding in Kelowna. It was a mini Rustler reunion and it was so nice to see everyone. I have played on the Rustler Alumni team during the Lloydminster co-ed tournament which has been a great opportunity to catch up with former teammates as well.

If you could give a couple of words of advice to our current Rustlers what would it be?

Take your education seriously. Most student athletes are attending Lakeland College to play the sport they love, which is great. However, it's also important to focus on the schooling you receive while attending Lakeland. The class sizes are small and the faculty members are spectacular. Take advantage of this and be determined in both the classroom and in the sport you are playing.

Any additional words of wisdom?

Enjoy it! The time goes by fast and you will miss it when it's over. The college experience is a special but short time in life. Don’t take it for granted!
