Rustlers Weekend Recap - December 8, 2025
Despite league play being on hold, Rustlers student athletes kept themselves busy this past weekend.
Members from almost every Lakeland team volunteered on Friday to help the Salvation Army with the Christmas Kettles Campaign. This is a primary fundraiser for the Salvation Army, bringing in thousands of dollars that go directly to supporting families in need in Lloydminster. Hundreds of local and regional residents donated money in the morning and evening.
Sunday, the Rustlers curling teams had a great time with the Lashburn 4H Club, teaching young kids how to curl. The youngsters were shown the basics of the sport, such as sliding out and sweeping, before scrimmaging in the afternoon.
Later that evening, women's hockey held their annual Hockey Fights Cancer game, in support of the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation. 15 alumni of the Rustlers program came out to join in the charity game.
As students finish exams, Lakeland athletes will transition to their mid-season break, before arriving just before New Year's Eve.
The basketball teams will journey south of the border for a series of exhibition games in Montana, while volleyball and futsal are working on exhibition games closer to home. Women's hockey will travel the farthest, as they are in Quebec for three exhibitions games in early January.
Merry Christmas everyone!
