Rustlers Weekend Recap - October 6, 2025
Ahead of Thanksgiving, Rustlers Athletics continued to forge ahead in the 2025-2026 season, while celebrating last year's accomplishments.
Rustlers Hockey
Women's hockey held their home opener on Friday, just days after the official grand opening of their new barn, the Cenovus Energy Hub. Following the raising of the 2025 championship banner, the Rustlers first matchup pitted them against last year's silver medalists, the RDP Queens.
No scoring occurred in the first period and in the second, Lakeland finally broke the tie halfway through, on a great move from Keyra Buziak. They added to the lead in the third, courtesy of Olivia Mann on the powerplay, leading to a 2-1 victory. Amiyah jones had two assists, while Schay Camphaug picked up her first win of the season, making 25 saves.
On Saturday, the Rustlers were in Edmonton to face the NAIT Ooks, where their Edmonton rivals showed this season will be a battle whenever they play. Despite Addison Eurich opening the scoring just seconds into the game, the Ooks went on to score four straight goals, including three in the second period, defeating Lakeland 4-1, despite a large disparity in shots, 67-31.
The Rustlers start the regular season 1-1, with next weekend off. They're back at home Oct. 17-19, hosting the Olds Broncos.
Rustlers Rowing
Rustler Rowing team were racing in Leduc on Saturday at the Leduc Boat Club Bulrush Stakes, a 4 km race hosted by the University of Alberta and Edmonton Rowing Club. Novice Women's 8+ rowed to gold again in a three-boat race dominating the 2nd place crew for U of A by over a minute.
Novice Women's A quad also rowed to gold in their five-boat final, the Novice Women's B quad finished 3rd in the event and the Women's Double finished 2nd to University of Calgary in their event. Rowing now has a break until their Time Trials take place in Vermilion on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Rustlers Soccer
Soccer had a lone road tilt in Edmonton on Saturday, where they faced the NAIT Ooks. The women were shut out, while the men lost 4-1, with Jack Money getting the lone tally. Both teams would need to win their remaining games and get some help to find that third playoff spot in the North Division.
Rustlers Exhibition
Men's and women's volleyball each had their own road trips, with the men paying in Calgary and Revelstoke, facing several PACWest teams from British Columbia at the latter location. The squad went 2-2 in four matches, with wins coming over Capilano and Camosun. The women played four exhibition matches against the Gran MacEwan Griffins, using split lineups, winning once and losing in five twice.
Rustlers basketball hosted exhibition games against the Augustana Vikings on Friday, with the women falling to the Vikings, and the men winning 93-65. The guys team also played on Saturday, where they weee victorious over Western Canada Prep Academy.
What's Coming Up
Lakeland will still have several teams competing over Thanksgiving weekend, with men's basketball hosting the NAIT Ooks Friday evening at 8:00 pm.
Soccer heads to Lac La Biche Thursday night to face the Portage Voyageurs, then have the rematch on Saturday at VLA Fields. This is the last home date for the soccer teams, kick off at 12:00 pm and 2:15 pm.
