Rustlers Host Fantasy Camp for Montreal Lake Cree Nation
Tuesday, November 15th was a special day for some of the Rustlers student-athletes as well as for a group of students from Montreal Lake Cree Nation school. The Lakeland College recruitment department worked with the Montreal Lake Cree Nation to introduce them to the great programs that Lakeland has to offer as well as the supports and services students at Lakeland receive. For most student prospects looking at Lakeland College, or many post-secondary's a thorough informative tour of the institution, is usually where the experience ends.
For these students though they were also exposed to what it was like to be a Rustler by spending an hour with the Rustlers men's soccer team and an hour with the Rustlers Volleyball teams. A little bit of discussion but a lot of participation occurred where the staff and students, of Montreal Lake Cree Nation and Rustler student-athletes, formed teams and competed in some friendly competition. Each student from Montreal Lake was given a shirt sponsored by Moving Well to remember the occasion.
Athletic Director Alan Rogan commented " What a great opportunity for our Rustler student-athletes to work with a great group of young men and women. One of our pillars of success is to engage with our communities and playing the sport they love with a group of youth who also enjoy sport is a simple but important action. Hopefully, we will see some of the students from Montreal Lake Cree Nation walking our hallways in the future as students."
Although the time on the campus was brief many of the students left Lakeland with smiles on their faces as they traveled back home.
