Rowdy Rustlers Roundup - Terry Romanow, Men's Volleyball
Sport: Men's Volleyball
What year(s) did you compete for Lakeland? 1997-1998
How did playing for the Rustlers help you get to where you are today (career)?
Coming into the Rustler program a little bit older than most of our guys, I can remember not being in the best physical shape. So I had to make a decision to change things...So I focused on discipline, determination, hard work and of course being socially active, these all contributed and have supported my career to help build the company I helped create.
Where are you working right now and what are you doing?
Currently I reside in Denver Colorado and Lacombe Alberta. I am the President of Hydrodig - a hydro-excavation company with service locations from Vancouver Island to Ottawa and a USA headquarters in Denver, Colorado.
Are you still involved with your sport you competed at Lakeland now? Coaching/ playing etc.
I was fairly active after my college career playing in local adult leagues, coaching junior & senior high school teams and even coached some club level teams in Denver up until about 3 years ago.
What was your favorite moment at Lakeland as a student-athlete?
As a group of friends, our men's and ladies program had alot of fun together. We worked hard and played hard every week and weekend. We had a great group to socialize with and that made for many laughs and good times. The grand finale of favorite moments was of course being selected as Male Athlete of the Year 1998.
Are you still close with any former teammates?
I maintain contact with a good number of people on social media. Over the course of many years the Rawlake family (Aaron 1997) has been a part of my family, we share numerous times being together and continue to do so. Also Janet (1997-98) has been along for the ride and is a source of many adventures that we can laugh about still to this day.
If you could give a couple of words of advice to our current Rustlers what would it be?
As a young adult coming into college you may think that you have your shit together...Take a step back and have a moment to check your attitude and your mindset. Ensure that they are laser focused on the tasks that you are about undertake. Also realize that the more you experience and learn with a positive attitude and mindset, the more you will have to offer.
Any additional words of wisdom?
Having the courage to stand out and be a solid human being is an arduous task. Continually strive to take the high road and build on your strengths. These are some of the strengths that got you to college in the first place, however they are not the only strengths you possess. Listen, learn from your mistakes and be active in your community; the prominent folks will notice and the people will recognize you and the efforts you maintain; which will then make the rest of your life story easier to write.
