Volleyball Ready for the Playoffs
The Volleyball teams finished off the regular season with matches against the Concordia Thunder in Edmonton on Saturday.
The women started the evening off with a convincing 25 – 11 victory over the Thunder on their way to a 3 set – 0 win, winning set 2 and 3 by scores of 25 – 20 and 25 – 21. Jana Laing set a great game for the Rustlers and played some solid defense leading the Rustlers with 15 digs and 32 assists. Libero Margaret Tabas returned from injury and played consistently also pulling up 14 balls over the 3 sets.
The women finished first in the North Division and will host the winner of Keyano and Concordia in the north final on March 6 at 3:00 pm
The men went into the weekend a little battered and bruised with a number of the Rustlers on the injured list. The match was close with the Rustlers winning the first two sets 26- 24 and 25 – 18 before the Thunder eeked out a 34 – 32 victory in set 3. The Rustlers answered back in a back and forth set 26 – 24 to win the match 3 games to 1. Gabriel Brinchmann Bjorkas had a strong offensive performance generating 22 kills and 2 serve aces. Brady Cole was dominant at the net generating 6 stuff blocks.
The men will host a quarter-final against the Grande Prairie Wolves on Friday, March 4 with a game-time of 8:00 pm.
